Designed specifically for the needs of today's high-volume consumer applications, the Spartan-IIE family represents an affordable programmable alternative to best meet the demands of a rapidly evolving market. Already an emerging player in consumer electronic applications, Xilinx expects the Spartan-IIE family to further penetrate the digital convergence market. Available with up to 300,000 system gates, Spartan-IIE FPGAs allow today's designer to achieve system-level integration formerly achieved only through the use of ASICs. Total Cost Management

The Spartan-IIE solution provides total cost management through the design, production, and life cycle phases, allowing manufacturers to address all aspects of a product's cost. Design cost is reduced through utilizing fewer engineering resources and the elimination of non-recurring engineering (NRE) charges. Production cost is managed through the value of system functions integrated into the FPGA, and the ability to use a standard FPGA device for many different designs. Life cycle cost is reduced through the elimination of inventory risks and the ability to upgrade a product after it has left the factory.

System Level Integration

The high level system integration features of Spartan-IIE FPGAs provide customers with an in-system reprogrammable platform for designing a whole new set of upgradable high-volume consumer applications. The system interface connectivity of Spartan-IIE FPGAs provide advanced LVDS capabilities for applications such as digital video, LCDs, plasma displays, scanners and digital cameras. Through parallel implementations of many DSP algorithms in Spartan-IIE FPGAs, designers can address DSP related applications more efficiently and effectively than conventional DSP devices. Through the use of MathWorks and the Xilinx® System Generator for Simulink® tools, DSP designers can implement designs for products such as digital and cable modems, satellite dishes, and HDTV.

The addition of DVT is a key milestone in Xilinx commitment to provide comprehensive solutions for emerging markets.

Software and IP Support

Support for the design of the Spartan-IIE product family is provided through the Xilinx 4.1i Integrated Software Environment (ISE). ISE 4.1i is the industry's most advanced programmable logic development system, including ProActive Timing Closure technology and integration with some of the most powerful EDA tools for advanced logic design. ISE 4.1i provides a complete solution with a streamlined ASIC-like design methodology to easily create, synthesize, verify, and implement a logic design.

Designers also have access to the industry's widest range of intellectual property (IP) products. This portfolio includes over 200 IP cores from Xilinx and its AllianceCORE™ partners, ranging from standard building blocks such as memory and multiplier generators to application specific cores such as microprocessors and forward error correction functions.

Pricing and Availability

The Spartan-IIE series ranges in density from 50,000 to 300,000 system gates. Several packaging options are available for the family including a 208 pin PQFP, 144 pin TQFP, and both a 256- and 456- pin FGA. The members of the Spartan-IIE family include the XC2S50E, XC2S100E, XC2S150E, XC2S200E, and XC2S300E. Second half 2002 pricing ranges from $6.95 for the XC2S50E-TQ144 (50,000 system gates) to $17.95 for the XC2S300E-PQ208 (300,000 system gates) in volumes greater than 250,000 units. Initial production devices are available now from distributors worldwide or direct from Xilinx with minimal lead time.
