Xilinx Inc., (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced the latest version of its Foundation Series™ and Alliance Series™ programmable logic development systems. The new Xilinx® version 3.3i software is the only PLD software available today to implement designs greater than one million ASIC gates. Improved capabilities in the software include new device package support, faster design performance, and shorter runtimes based on enhanced timing estimations and reduced memory requirements. Xilinx software now runs 2 to 11 times faster than any competitor while delivering 86 percent higher clock frequencies. (See www.xilinx.com for comparisons.)
Xilinx software delivers the compile times for multi million gate time-to-market requirements. "Our dramatic runtime improvements in our software over the past year will have an immediate productivity impact for all Virtex designers," said Rich Sevcik, Xilinx senior vice president IP, Software and Services.
Meeting Timing Goals
Design performance is one of the most important factors for designers. Xilinx FPGA performance has improved dramatically over 100 percent during the past year. This improvement lies in the combination of the new Virtex®-II architecture and advances in Xilinx place and route algorithms and synthesis.
The latest Xilinx software delivers a significant boost in Virtex performance and enables designers to meet timing goals using our push button solutions. In addition to further extending leadership in runtime and performance, Xilinx and its EDA partners are today providing methodologies to further enhance clock rates and improve designer productivity by providing solutions for fast timing closure, design planning, modular and incremental design.
Price, platform and availability
The latest service pack for the Xilinx 3.3i software will begin shipping via the Internet to over 20,000 registered, in-maintenance users in February. For customers who are ready to start Virtex-II designs today, software is available for download from http://support.xilinx.com/. The Foundation Series ISE and Alliance Series software provide architecture-specific device support for all Xilinx leading product families including the Spartan® and Virtex series FPGAs, and XC9500™ CPLDs. Both software series are supported on Windows98, Windows 2000, and Windows NT; and Chinese, Korean, and Japanese Windows. The Alliance Series software also supports Unix Operating Systems HP-UX and Sun Solaris. Pricing for the Foundation Series ISE software starts at $695. Pricing for the Alliance Series software starts at $1495.
Xilinx is the leading supplier of complete programmable logic solutions, including advanced integrated circuits, software design tools, predefined system functions delivered as cores, and unparalleled field engineering support. Founded in 1984 and headquarters in San Jose, Calif., Xilinx invented field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) and fulfills more than half of the world demand for these devices today.
