"The standard of entries for all categories was once again very impressive, demonstrating the level of innovation currently taking place in the industry," said Richard Wilson, editor of Electronics Weekly and chairman of the Elektra Awards judging panel. "All shortlisted companies should be proud of their achievements."

Established as an annual high point of the electronics industry, the Elektra Awards give the industry the opportunity to recognize the achievements of individuals and companies from across Europe. The Awards ceremony itself is on 9th December at The Lancaster London.

Focusing on performance, design flexibility and suitability for an application judges selected the Xilinx 7 Series FPGA family, launched in June 2010, as a 'Semiconductor Product of the Year - Digital' finalist. Deciding factors were likely to be the novel capabilities of Virtex®-7, Kintex™-7 and Artix™-7, including moving to a 28nm high performance, low power process, creating a unified and scalable architecture and improving the tools and IP for a more productive user experience in next generation wireless, wired and broadcast applications, as well as aerospace and defense systems.

For 'Fabless Supplier of the Year' entrants were invited to present their achievements during the last 12 months. Judges selected Xilinx for its committed and active role in driving what the company dubs as the 'programmable imperative' to fuel low cost design innovation and broaden the appeal of FPGAs. Record-breaking financials and execution of an aggressive product roadmap were additional considerations.

"It's an impressive achievement to be shortlisted for one Elektra Award but getting two hits is just thrilling," said Vin Ratford, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Xilinx. "This result is testament to the extensive technical skills, market specific expertise, R&D investment and continued growth of our company. We look forward to a great evening in December."
