Experts gather this week to celebrate grand opening, launch Open Source
Hardware and Embedded System Contest 2009 & deliver Embedded Technology Forum

SAN JOSE, Calif. and BEIJING, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq:
XLNX) and Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) today announced a joint
venture between the university, Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) and Xilinx
University Program (XUP) that has culminated in the grand opening of a new
BJUT-Xilinx Advanced Research & Teaching Facility. The new 2,000-square meter
facility will include three laboratories dedicated to embedded system design
and fully equipped with hardware, software, FPGA silicon, IP and tools
provided through XUP donations and government grants.
More than 160 leading Chinese and international technology experts -
including dignitaries from government, industry and academia - are gathering
today and tomorrow at the Beijing university campus for an Embedded Technology
Forum co-hosted by Xilinx and BJUT. In addition to an official signing
ceremony to celebrate the new research and teaching facility, event highlights
include the official kick-off of this year's Open Source Hardware and Embedded
System Contest, and a series of technology lectures and workshops, delivered
by professors and industry executives from Australia, China, UK and USA.

About the Open Source Hardware Innovation Contest
At today's Embedded Technology Forum, the Chinese Institute of Electronics
(CIE) announced the official commencement of the Open Source Hardware and
Embedded System Contest 2009. A cooperative effort between academia and
industry and hosted by the CIE, goals of the program are to drive business and
technology innovation; foster communication, contribution and sharing within
the open source community; and accelerate the development of open source
hardware intellectual property. The contest has expanded this year to include
participants from Taiwan, in addition to Mainland China. Sponsors include
Xilinx, Avnet, Digilent, SEED International, Ltd., Ultrawise, E-Elements,
Excelpoint, Sun Microsystems, AutoESL, National Instruments and Alignment Co.,
Ltd. Winning entries for the 2009 program will be announced at an awards
ceremony in May 2010.
